Circle-to-land at a non-towered field — how do you brief it?

Practice approach to a non-towered field, circling mins, left traffic, ceiling right at circling. How do you brief the missed if you lose the runway on downwind?

Brief it as a published missed from the missed-approach point, plus the circling-specific “if I lose visual, I climb and turn toward the landing runway, then rejoin the missed.” Say the direction of turn out loud so you do not invent a 180 through the obstacle side. If circling mins are the weather, this is a good approach to fly with a CFI, not a good approach to invent on a Saturday. Bring the plate to IFR Club this week and we will mark the protected side together.
